How Much Did Romania Cost?

We ran into a couple earlier in our trip and they told us that Romania was one of the countries they where they couldn’t spend their budget if they tried. Obviously they were being a little sarcastic but the point was/is…Romania is super cheap. We spent just over 2 weeks in Romania which is somewhat of a surprise seeing as to how we didn’t have it as a stop when we originally planned. See how we did on costs!

The average stay per night in Romania was $36/night which is absurd, especially considering the really nice places we stayed. Caitlin and I were talking and while food/drink is usually our biggest expense we think the biggest money saver in countries like Romania is on activities or lack thereof. The bottom line, there aren’t as many attractions (i.e. museums, castles, churches) and if there are, many times they don’t charge a fee or it’s minimal. Compare that to a London where we spent almost a whole day’s allowance on the Winston Churchill museum, and you’re going to see a big difference.

All in all, Romania is going to be one of the cheaper countries in Eastern Europe to visit. If you always need to be doing something and going somewhere then it might not be your ideal destination. But if you’re ok having some chill days while saving $$, Romania is your place!
