Kings Landing (Dubrovnik) With Friends!

We jumped on a bus with our friends in Split to head down the coast to Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik’s claim to fame is its Old Town which is encircled with massive stone walls from the 16th century and jutts out into the Adriatic. We took a Game of Thrones tour the following day because we are all equally obsessed with the show. The tour guide said the show has brought tourism to an all time high. She seemed a bit conflicted about this new found fame. While it’s great to have money and opportunities pouring into the city, she said it can be overwhelming when cruise ships with thousands of passengers get dropped off in this very old (and small) city. Once again though, we were here in the winter so the streets and tours were dead! The tour we went on was great because it showed us how and where the TV series was filmed and at the same time it taught us the history of the city.

Following the tour we walked along the city walls which should take about an hour but it ends up taking about 2 hours when you stop and take pictures every 10 steps :). The city is definitely expensive compared to other cities in the region, but you absolutely can’t pass it up if you are in the area because it’s just too damn picturesque.

After many more drinks and a lot more food it came time to say goodbye to our friends. We are coming up on 7 months of being on the road and 3 months since seeing familiar faces so it definitely hit the spot. We’ve moved on to Montenegro, after that is Albania, Greece, and in one month we will be landing in Egypt!
