Peru Hop

We have gotten numerous questions about how we are getting around Peru and it’s a great question. We have been using Peru Hop and it has been nothing but incredible. The company was founded about 5 years ago by some dudes from Ireland that noticed it was too hard to get around this country that has so much to offer.

The premise is pretty simple. They offer passes depending on what you want to see and how much time you have. Once you have your route, it’s a jump-on/jump-off structure. All we had to do was log into our account, say we wanted to leave a certain city on a specific day from a specific spot, and the bus would be there waiting for us. Here are some other perks of traveling with Peru Hop:

  • The buses were very comfortable and the overnight buses are the double-decker style. The air conditioning was great, seats reclined, blankets provided, chargers in every seat and a toilet on the bus.

  • Every bus has 1-2 tour guides that are fluent in Spanish and English, so they are able to help with anything.

  • They have deals with 3-4 hostels and hotels in each city so if you book with them and say you are traveling with Peru Hop, you get a great deal. They have a place for whatever you are looking for (party place, quiet affordable place or higher class establishment).

  • They offer sign-ups for activities to do in the next city while you’re on your way to that city. For example, when we were going to Paracas we could sign up, on the bus, that we wanted to take a boat out to the Ballastes Islands. We could pay for it in Soles or USD, and we were done.

  • They go into Bolivia. This might not seem like a big deal but crossing the Bolivia border is a huge pain and they assist with this.

  • Lastly, I already hit on it but the flexibility is amazing. As long as you make the change 12 hours before you’re supposed to leave, then any change is fine.

We couldn’t imagine what we would have done traveling around Peru without it, so we thought it only right to do a post dedicated to this method of transportation.
